Daniel David Palmer

Daniel David Palmer is the founder of the practice Chiropracting. Daniel did not live in Port Perry but received education from Port Perry in his young age. His time in Port Perry was quick because his father’s grocery business was not successful. Daniel discovered chiropractic on September 18th,1895. It was discovered when readjusting the spine of a deaf person.

Daniel did not want to share his theories with others, but after a near death experience, he decided to start teaching at his own school. He had difficulties with people on how he taught his theories, he was sent to jail for practicing without a certificate. After being released he then went to speak at his son’s school, on the way to the school he was hit by his son’s car in an accident and was killed by the injuries sustained.

25 years later, in July 1938 chiropractors across North America came to Port Perry to dedicate the park infront of Scugog Lake to Daniel David Palmer and in 1946 the National Chiropractic Association unveiled a bronze bust of Daniel in front of Scugog Lake.

    All these restaurants are great but the one that stands out the most is The Piano Cafe. This is a small cafe and Inn that is open from 11am-4pm on weekdays and 11am-5pm on the weekends. When you think of a cafe, the first thing that comes to mind is a small restaurant that specializes in coffee and dessert but The Piano Cafe offers a menu that caters to everyone’s taste buds. Menu Items like the Roast Beef sandwich, Quiche, Crepe, Ceaser Wrap, and Soup of the day combo’s always put smiles on guest’s faces. And when you offer a Gluten-Free menu and vegetarian options it shows that this Cafe cares about everyones needs and requests.

The Piano Cafe is also an Inn that offers five rooms to stay in, the prices are ranging from $120-$160 for a night and also gives you a 15% discount on the café food. The Piano Cafe also caters to any events you are having such as Christmas parties, work outings or family get together’s.

One of the best shops in Port Perry is the Nutty Chocolatier, it is central Ontario’s finest purveyor of hand crafted truffles and chocolates. This is a Victorian styled shop that imports chocolate from Belgium. The Nutty Chocolatier makes fantastic gift baskets and homemade fudge, as soon as you walk through that door, the staff member greets you by offering some of their fantastic fudge. While in Port Perry make sure to check out this amazing chocolate store.

Old Flame Brewery

Old Flame is a craft brewery based out of Port Perry, it was built-in 1884 and is still running at 100% today, at its location is on 135 Perry St.

The Old Flame Brewery invites everyone to enjoy a free tour on how they make their brew and gives everyone a sample of what there 3 lager’s taste like. They offer the Helles Style Lager which is the “Blonde”Old Flame, the Vienna Lager which is the “Red” Old Flame, and last the Munich Dunkel Style Lager which is the “Brunette” Old Flame. This is also a nice place to enjoy a christmas party, work outing, or family get together.

In conclusion, you will fall in love with this town instantly, the downtown area is absolutely beautiful and the lake is a fantastic sight. Plan to come on a sunny summer day to enjoy a drink on the patio and the view of the lake.
